The National Weather Service in New Orleans warns of potential heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and heat dangers for today. The risks of excessive rainfall and flash flooding have increased since the previous update, particularly to the west of Interstate 55, but the entire region remains under alert.
A heat advisory is also in effect for all of Southeast Louisiana, as well as Southwest and Coastal Mississippi. Authorities express high confidence in the heat’s impact today, with heat index values expected to reach between 108 and 113 degrees. This can cause heat-related illnesses to occur rapidly.
Rainfall rates of 2 to 4 inches per hour might lead to localized flash flooding, water ponding in low-lying areas, and street flooding due to poor drainage. Be vigilant in areas receiving the most rainfall as flash floods cannot be ruled out. Stay safe by monitoring weather updates and taking necessary precautions against both heavy rain and extreme heat.
