A heat advisory is in effect for parts of central, south central, southwest, and west central Louisiana, as well as southeast Texas. The advisory remains active until 7 PM CDT this evening and will be in effect again from 10 AM to 7 PM CDT on Tuesday.
High heat index values of up to 112 are expected today, while tomorrow’s temperatures could reach up to 113. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions as hot temperatures and high humidity may lead to heat-related illnesses. Stay vigilant for potential upgrades to an Excessive Heat Warning in some areas today and tomorrow.
To stay safe, drink plenty of fluids, use air conditioning, avoid the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles. If working or spending time outdoors, try to reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours. Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, wear lightweight clothing, and take breaks in shaded or cool areas.
In case of a heat stroke emergency, move the affected person to a cool location and immediately call 911.
