On November 9, 2022, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division were called to a Gibson residence and spoke with a juvenile victim, and her caretaker, who reported the abuse. Deputies learned that an incident took place on that day and identified Gary Diggs as the perpetrator.
As the investigation continued, Terrebonne Detectives of the Special Victim’s Unit (SVU) were called in to complete the investigation and interviewed the victim, who confirmed the details of the incident, which was described as inappropriate touching. During the investigation into Diggs, SVU Detectives learned that Diggs was recently released after serving a lengthy prison sentence in California, stemming from a 1995 conviction for 2 counts of Rape by Force/Fear charges, in a separate and unrelated case.
During the course of the investigation, SVU Detectives secured an arrest warrant for Gary Diggs, for 1 count of Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile, but were unable to initially locate him due to fleeing to the Sate of Georgia after the incident. On December 5, 2022, Diggs was located in Gibson, and was brought in for questioning. Gary Diggs refused to cooperate with the investigation and was arrested and jailed at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex on the outstanding warrant. Diggs remains jailed on a $75,000 by local judges.
Sheriff Tim Soignet confirmed this is an ongoing investigation. Sheriff Soignet said, “As always, I ask for privacy for the victims and family, as we continue to work through the investigation. Our Detectives are working to bring a resolution to this unfortunate investigation and will do what is needed to make sure this offender is brought to justice.”
