The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Enforcement Division is investigating a boating incident that occurred Wednesday evening April 1 in Bayou Vista.
According to authorities, LDWF agents were notified around 7:50 p.m. of a collision involving two jet skis in the Lower Atchafalaya River (Bayou Teche) . Upon arrival, agents determined that one watercraft was carrying three individuals and the other had two on board. The two watercraft collided, ejecting all five occupants into the water. A nearby boater responded and safely rescued all five individuals, bringing them to shore.
When agents arrived, Acadian Ambulance, Acadian Air Med, St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Bayou Vista Fire Department were already on scene. All five individuals sustained serious to critical injuries and were transported to several hospitals for treatment.
The LDWF Enforcement Division is leading the investigation. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
