A structure fire broke out on Eagle Point Drive in Pierre Part late on July 5th. The Pierre Part Fire Department responded to the call, arriving at the scene around 11:35 p.m. Firefighters found the building fully involved in flames, but all occupants had already made it out safely.
According to the camp owner, he heard an explosion and saw that his Toyota Tundra was on fire. The flames quickly spread from the vehicle to the main structure. After warning his wife, he exited by jumping from the back porch, then waited below as his wife helped their two children down to him before she jumped as well. The family received initial treatment on scene and was taken to a hospital by Acadian Ambulance for further evaluation.
Fire crews worked quickly to contain the fire. Engine 43 used its onboard water supply before connecting to hydrants, while Engine 42 directed water into the attic and ventilated the structure. One firefighter experienced heat exhaustion and was treated promptly. The Paincourtville Volunteer Fire Department provided mutual aid, helping with remaining hotspots once the main fire was out. Equipment was cleaned and put back in service after the incident.
In total, 31 personnel responded: 19 firefighters and 6 medics from Pierre Part, 6 firefighters from Paincourtville, and one from the Belle River Fire Department. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
