St. Mary Parish Homeland Security Director Jimmy Broussard announced Tuesday afternoon that St. Mary Parish has been granted Individual Assistance from FEMA.

Broussard said FEMA personnel will begin the process on Wednesday of going door to door to register residents for Individual Assistance.  The canvassing will begin in Morgan City on Wednesday and will also include Berwick, Amelia, Patterson, Bayou Vista, Verdunville, Centerville and other affected areas.

FEMA personnel will have a FEMA ID, will not ask for money, may take photos and will ask for information to complete an application. Local law enforcement agencies will be notified of FEMA personnel in the area to provide directions or other assistance.

A Disaster Recovery Center will open at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium in the near future, however it is faster to apply for assistance online at www.disasterassistance.gov, download the FEMA app or call 1-800-621-3362.
