The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest and termination of a corrections deputy following an investigation into an alleged battery on an inmate.
According to officials, the Sheriff’s Office received information indicating that a deputy assigned to the Corrections Division had committed battery against an inmate. An internal investigation was immediately launched.
As a result, Mikhael Hebert, 28, was arrested and booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on the following charges:

2nd Degree Battery – La. R.S. 14:34.1

Malfeasance in Office – La. R.S. 14:134
Following the conclusion of the investigation, Hebert’s employment with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office was terminated.
Sheriff Tommy Romero stated that the department remains committed to professionalism, transparency, and accountability. He emphasized that any actions undermining public trust or violating the rights of individuals in custody will be fully investigated and appropriately addressed.
