City of Franklin Cancels Mardi Gras Parade

Franklin Mayor Eugene Foulcard made the following announcement on the city’s Facebook page Friday morning:

”Upon consultation with the Mardi Gras Krewes within the City of Franklin – Krewe of Guhmboh, Krewe of Teche, Krewe of Sucrose, Krewe of Shona and Krewe of Ujima – I was informed that each of the Krewes have cancelled their Mardi Gras balls out of the abundance of caution due to the coronavirus. In speaking with the organizers of the Franklin Carnival Parade Association, Inc. and in light of the current restrictions in place we have mutually agreed in the cancellation of this year’s Mardi Gras parade. Although this is painful for us it is not only to protect the police and first responders that conduct the security of the parade and provide security beyond this event but also to protect our businesses and schools by preventing a surge of the virus in our community. We look forward to the day we can mass gather at a festival or large scale parade; however, until that time please keep each other safe by following all recommended Covid-19 mitigation measures.”
