Berwick Police Chief David Leonard reports the following arrests:
Christopher Adams W/M 41 Roderick St. Morgan City was arrested on September 2, 2022 at 11:20 PM for
- DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED (REFUSAL)
- SPEEDING 55/30
On September 2, 2022 at approximately 11:12 PM a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle for speeding 55 in a 30 MPH zone. Officers made contact with Adams who showed signs of impairment. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were conducted which he performed poorly on. Adams was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department where he refused to submit a breath sample. A search warrant was obtained and blood samples were collected and sent to the crime lab pending toxicology screening. Adams was booked on the charges of Driving While Intoxicated Refusal and Speeding 55/30.
Byron Levy Jr. B/M 41 Duke St. Morgan City was arrested on September 4, 2022 at 12:44 AM for
- DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED FIRST OFFENSE
- DRIVING UNDER SUSPENSION
- IMPROPER LANE USAGE
Christopher Bennett B/M 41 Grandwood St. Patterson was arrested on September 4, 2022 at 12:48 AM for
- POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA (UNDER 14 GRAMS)
On September 4, 2022 at approximately 12:28 AM officers with the Berwick Police Department were conducting a sobriety check point on LA Hwy.182. During this time a vehicle was observed to make an illegal turn in the roadway to avoid the check point. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and officers made contact with the driver who was identified as Levy and the passenger who was identified as Bennett. While speaking with Levy he showed signs of impairment and Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were conducted. Levy performed poorly on the tests and was placed under arrest. While speaking with Bennett, he was found to be in possession of Marijuana and was too placed under arrest. Levy was transported to the Berwick Police Department where he provided a valid breath sample of .146G% BAC. It was also learned that his driver’s license was suspended. Levy was booked on the charges of Driving While Intoxicated First Offense, Improper Lane Usage, and Driving Under Suspension. Bennett was arrested for Possession of Marijuana and was released on a summons to appear in court.
Ryan Richter W/M 25 Martin Luther King Rd. Baldwin was arrested on September 5, 2022 at 9:50 PM for
- DISTURBING THE PEACE INTOXICATED
On September 5, 2022 at approximately 9:48PM an officer in the area of US Hwy. 90 observed a male subject standing in the middle of the highway. During that time, a call was received about the subject nearly getting struck by vehicles. Officers made contact with the subject who was identified as Richter. While speaking with Richter he could not keep his balance and a strong odor of alcohol was detected coming from his breath and person. Richter was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department where he was booked on the charge of Disturbing the Peace Intoxicated.
