BELLE ROSE MAN ARRESTED FOR THIRD-OFFENSE DWI AFTER DRIVING OFFROAD VEHICLE ON HIGHWAY

BAYOU CORNE, LA — October 10, 2025 — Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon announced the arrest of 48-year-old Cody Joseph Leonard, of Belle Rose, on felony charges following a traffic stop on Thursday afternoon.

According to Sheriff Falcon, a patrol deputy observed an offroad vehicle traveling westbound on LA 70 near Bayou Corne and initiated a traffic stop. Upon approaching the driver, identified as Leonard, the deputy reportedly detected a strong odor of alcohol.

Field sobriety tests were administered, which Leonard performed poorly, leading to his arrest. He was transported to the Assumption Parish Detention Center, where a breath alcohol test registered a 0.200g%, more than twice the legal limit.

Leonard was booked on the following charges:

Driving While Intoxicated – Third Offense (Felony)

Driving an Offroad Vehicle on a Public Roadway

No Safety Helmet

Leonard remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
