PIERRE PART – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Christopher Paul Campbell, Jr., 27, of 11205 Mollyleo Drive, Baton Rouge, LA, on multiple charges arising from a traffic incident turned pursuit on LA 70 east of Pierre Part on Wednesday afternoon.
A uniformed patrol deputy observed a vehicle driving at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, passing vehicles in clearly marked no passing zones, and forcing multiple vehicles off of the roadway in the Bayou Corne area.
Deputies attempted a traffic stop of the vehicle for the aforementioned offenses. The suspect driver refused to stop and engaged deputies in a pursuit situation westbound into the Pierre Part area. Deputies pursued the suspect vehicle at high speeds into the Belle River area. The suspect vehicle continued on, turning onto Belle River Road. The suspect vehicle crashed into a small canal near Michel Road and Floyd Street.
The suspect driver, now identified as Christopher Paul Campbell, Jr., was taken into custody. During an inventory of the suspect vehicle, deputies seized a large caliber handgun.
Christopher Paul Campbell, Jr. was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Aggravated Flight from an Officer
*Aggravated Obstruction of a Highway of Commerce
*Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property (3 Counts)
*Driving While Intoxicated
*No Passing Zone Violations
*Hit and Run Driving (3 Counts)
*Illegal Window Tint
*Resisting an Officer
Christopher Paul Campbell, Jr. remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
