The Baldwin Police Department is mourning the loss of one of their own. The department released the following statement Sunday afternoon,
“Chief A Gibson and staff announces the passing of a Communication Officer. Once again, with heavy hearts, the Baldwin Police Department says farewell.
Mr. Justin Couvillier, fondly known as “Papa J,” has gone home to be with our Lord. He faithfully served as a dispatcher here since 2013. He was a man who always greeted you with a smile—or sometimes a little grumble—but you always knew it came from a place of love.
His dedication to law enforcement was evident throughout his life. As a young man, he patrolled the streets of Patterson, and in later years, he returned to serve as a dispatcher, brought in by his longtime friend, the late Police Chief Gerald Minor.
Oh, the stories he would share—we will truly miss them. We’ll miss the smell of coffee brewing at the station and the familiar sounds of the old Western movies playing in the background.
But more than anything, we will miss him.
“Papa J,” thank you for always having our six. Until we meet again… 💙
Final Arrangements are Entrusted to MK Dixon Funeral Home.
Baldwin Police Department Family.“
