Former St. Mary Parish President Oray P. Rogers passed away early Saturday morning, according to his family.
Rogers graduated from DeVry Institute in electronics repair by mail and was a longtime TV and electronics repair man, as well as a Radio Shack dealer.
With his lifetime partner, most ardent supporter and closest advisor and , Louise Hebert Rogers, always by his side, Oray was a civic leader and public servant almost his entire adult life.
He served as a long-time Franklin City Council Member and St. Mary Parish President for two full terms, from 1992 – 2000, overseeing the entire clean-up and recovery efforts from Hurricane Andrew.
Rogers was appointed to the Louisiana Lottery Commission by Governor Mike Foster, serving for over 8 years, as well as the St. Mary Parish Charter Review Commission in 2000. He also served as a St. Mary Parish election poll worker for over 20 years and a courtroom Bailiff in the St. Mary Parish Courthouse for many years.
He was also appointed by Governor John Bel Edwards to the Louisiana Boxing Commission, serving until his death.
As a proud Louisiana Cajun, Rogers was a Franklin Little Theatre Performer, enthusiastic bank, not boat, fisherman, accomplished Cajun Accordion player, founding member of Franklin’s Krewes of Teche and Agmarol and a lifelong Democrat.
Funeral Arrangements are pending at this time, which are being handled by Ibert’s Mortuary of Franklin.
