UPDATE: The Associated Press is reporting that the shooter and a rally attendee are both dead.
ORIGINAL: Former President Trump has been quickly whisked off stage after what sounded like several gunshots were fired during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump was picked up off the stage by Secret Service Agents and escorted to his motorcade. Photos shared by FOX News showed Trump being removed from the stage with blood on his face.
The Trump Presidential Campaign released a statement that said, “President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act. He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow”.
Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement, “Secret Service has implemented protective measures and the former President is safe…This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available.”
Guglielmi added that a large number of Secret Service agents are in Milwaukee ahead of the Republican National Convention.
A White House spokesperson has said that President Joe Biden has received an initial briefing on the incident.
The FBI is reportedly investigating the incident.
