BALDWIN, La. – A house fire in Baldwin has claimed the life of an elderly, disabled man and left a mother and her two sons injured. State Fire Marshal deputies are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
Early Monday morning on November 6, the Baldwin Fire Department received a distress call regarding a house fire on East Bollard Street. Arriving at the scene, firefighters discovered the primary residence ablaze, with the flames spreading to a neighboring mobile home.
Four individuals were inside the house during the fire, while five occupants, including children, were in the mobile home. Fortunately, those in the mobile home managed to escape without injuries. The family from the primary residence, consisting of a mother and her two sons – one a teenager – required hospitalization for their sustained injuries. Rescue efforts were made to save the 83-year-old disabled homeowner; unfortunately, his body was later found in a bedroom.
Awaiting official identification from the parish Coroner’s Office, investigators conclude that an electrical malfunction could be responsible for the devastating fire. They emphasize that regular inspections by licensed electricians can prevent such tragedies caused by electrical malfunctions.
Additionally, authorities noted that no working smoke alarms were found in the house, underscoring the importance of proper fire-safety measures.
