Tom Nguyen, a 66-year-old resident of Amelia, LA, was arrested on September 25, 2023, at 12:02 pm on charges of animal cruelty (two counts). In late August, officers from the Morgan City Police Department responded to reports of abandoned dogs on Brashear Ave. Alongside animal control, they retrieved two small dogs and brought them to safety.
Investigation revealed a video from nearby businesses showing an individual leaving the dogs behind and driving away. The department posted the video on their Facebook page, seeking public assistance to identify the perpetrator.
Over time, a potential suspect from Amelia was discovered, leading investigators to Tom Nguyen. He confessed to abandoning the animals and confirmed his identity in the video. A warrant was issued for his arrest and he was subsequently booked into the Morgan City Jail.
