ST. MARY PARISH- A Morgan City woman has been arrested in connection with a double fatal fire in Bayou Vista that occurred last month.
Haley Ramo, 22, was booked into the St. Mary Parish Jail on Monday, September 18, on one count each of Negligent Arson and Negligent Homicide.
Around 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 5, the Bayou Vista Fire Department responded to a report of a double-wide mobile home fire located in the 100 block of Jupiter Street in the Bayou Vista area. Unfortunately, firefighters located the body of a 28-year-old man in a hallway and the body of a 38-year-old woman in a bedroom. A third occupant, a 29-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital for his injuries while at least two dogs were also found dead in the home.
Following an assessment of the scene and conducting witness statements, deputies determined the fire began in the living room area of the home. Through the investigation, deputies learned Ramo was also in the home at the time of the fire and escaped without injury. Following extensive investigative efforts, deputies obtained a warrant for Ramo’s arrest in connection with the case.
Thanks to the St. Mary Sheriff’s Office, Ramo was quickly located and taken into custody.
The SFM would like to express its appreciation to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office for its partnership in this case.
