NAPOLEONVILLE, La. – Dawn Schumann, 38, of 202 Simmons Road, Napoleonville, LA, was arrested on felony charges stemming from an investigation that originated at the Assumption Parish Detention Center, according to the Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon.
A supervisor at the Assumption Parish Detention Center discovered that a food service employee working for a private contractor but assigned to kitchen duties at the facility was trafficking illegal narcotics.
The Uniformed Patrol Division and Narcotics Division initiated an investigation.
On Sunday, a K-9 unit conducted an open-air sniff of the employee’s car, which was later identified as belonging to Dawn Schumann. Positively alerting to the presence of illegally controlled dangerous substances was the K-9. Following a subsequent search of the vehicle, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were seized. Sunday’s employee, Dawn Schumann, was immediately relieved of her duties and arrested.
Dawn Schumann was booked with the following charges at the Assumption Parish Detention Center:
- Taking contraband to or from a Penal institution
- Possession of methamphetamine
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
Dawn Schumann remains in custody pending a hearing on her bond.
