Leona Sinitiere Ibert-Comer was born on October 25, 1933 and entered her heavenly home at 91 years old on June 13, 2025, passing peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who devoted her life to those she loved.

She was the third of five children born to Moise and Ida Mary Chauvin Sinitiere. Leona was a 1951 graduate of Franklin Senior High School then went on to marry her husband of 44 years, Herbert Chris Ibert. Together they created a legacy of family and business that is still prominent in our community. As the loving mother of four children, she dedicated her life to caring for her family as a homemaker. She stood alongside her husband as an active owner in the family business, Ibert’s Mortuary.

She fulfilled her marital vows after her husband Chris fell ill and cared for him for 13 years until his death in 1997. She reunited with a lifelong friend and married George Comer in 2005. They lived a happy life on Lake St. John in Ferriday and looked forward to entertaining family and friends on their boat the “Ms. Lee”. They shared a lot of love and many memories together until his passing in 2011.

Leona was a woman of poise, class, and natural beauty. She had a delightful sense of humor and was always ready with a prank. Affectionately known as “Gran” to her 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, she enjoyed making memories and rarely missed an event. From planning family vacations to sharing her love of the arts, she never overlooked an opportunity to expose her loved ones to the best things in life.

Gran is survived by her two daughters, Amanda “Mandy” Ibert Landry and husband Dale, and Meri Ibert Curry, her nine grandchildren, Jared Landry (Kim), Herbert Chris “Trey” Ibert, III (Mary), Blaire Landry Brown (Eric), Christina Landry Hidalgo (Hugh), Kirk Curry, Aprill Curry Payton (Mikey), Grace Ibert Denn (Preston), Chris Ibert, and Daniel Ibert; 17 great-grandchildren, Hallie, Keri, Miya, Bella, Laila, Ava, Julian, Evelyn, Ellisyn, Lillian, Ella, Abel, Baylor, Emmy, Sawyer, Elliott and Emmitt; her daughter-in-law, Melissa Daniel Ibert; her siblings, Bobby S. Breaux and Moise “Bum” Sinitiere and his wife Linda; and her brother-in-law, Don Olivier.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Chris Ibert; her two sons, Herbert Chris Ibert II and Gregory Paul Ibert; second husband, George Comer; her son-in-law, Kirk P. Curry; her siblings, Mavis S. Olivier and Maxine S. Avrill; and her brothers-in-law, Lloyd “Preacher” Breaux and Richard “Dick” Avrill.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2025, during a 2:30 PM Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of the Assumption in Franklin with Rev. Fr. Sal Istre as Celebrant. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the church from 11:00 AM until time of the Mass, with the Holy Rosary being prayed at 1:30 PM, led by the Franklin Men’s Ultreya Group. Following the services she will be laid to rest in the Franklin Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Jared Landry, Herbert Chris “Trey” Ibert III, Kirk Curry, Chris Ibert, Daniel Ibert, and Eric Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Hugh Hidalgo, Michael Payton, and Preston Denn.

The family extends our utmost gratitude to Dr. Roland Degeyter for the exceptional care and love given over the last 30+ years to our Gran and to the staff of Legacy Nursing Home who took such good care of her for the past 6 years.

Her spirit will live on in the stories we share and the memories we carry. Her love was a guiding light and her memory will remain a source of comfort to all those who knew and loved her. Every tear drop is a testimony to the depth of love shared.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the National MS Society Ways to Give: MS Donations & Fundraising | National MS Society or the Teche Theater for the Performing Arts.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, 1007 Main St., Franklin, LA 70538, (337) 828-5426.
