Nicholls State University classes will go virtual on Wednesday, Oct. 28, and Thursday, Oct. 29 due to the threat of inclement weather from Tropical Storm Zeta. Classes will operate under the guidelines of Nicholls Virtual Campus.
All campus events scheduled for Wednesday have been postponed. Bistro Ruth’s Thursday evening dinner is also canceled. A determination for other Thursday events will be announced early Thursday.
The university recognizes that electrical outages and evacuations could impact virtual learning. Contact your instructor as soon as possible if your area is affected by power outages or severe weather. Students requiring computer resources to participate in virtual classes may contact the Ellender Library, as some equipment may be available for temporary checkout.
Faculty are encouraged to retrieve any equipment necessary for remote delivery by the close of business today.
Offices will work remotely on Wednesday. Essential workers are asked to report to campus on Wednesday morning and will work until noon to complete storm preparations. Pending an assessment of the university by facilities personnel early Thursday morning, offices are expected to reopen with a delayed start at 10 a.m.
Residence halls will remain open and food services will be open tomorrow for breakfast and lunch. Students in residence halls are encouraged to pick up dinner by 2 p.m. Brunch and dinner will be served Thursday.
The Student Union, Recreation Center, Little Colonels Academy and Ellender Library will close at noon on Wednesday and reopen at 10 a.m. on Thursday, pending a campus assessment.
All Nicholls departments will refer to the Hurricane Emergency Plan and begin enacting internal Phase III storm preparations. We will notify the community if we implement Phase IV storm preparations.
Please remain weather aware and exercise caution when traveling from campus and throughout the weekend. Follow www.nicholls.edu/hurricane and Nicholls social media for updates.
