Troopers Investigating Officer Involved Shooting In New Iberia

New Iberia – On June 16, 2020, the New Iberia Police Department requested the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations investigate an officer involved shooting. Louisiana State Police is the lead investigating agency.

The preliminary investigation revealed that shortly after 6:00 p.m., an incident started in Vermilion Parish which led to a police pursuit. The pursuit ended in New Iberia near the 600 block of E. Santa Clara Street. As the pursuit ended, the subject fired his weapon and officers discharged their service weapons striking the subject.

The subject was treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries then transported to an area hospital for evaluation. He has been released from the hospital and is currently in police custody.
