Suspect Charged With Second Degree Murder After Shooting Raceland Man

On December 10th, 2020 at approximately 10:40p.m. the Houma Police Department responded to a shooting in the 900 block of Barataria Avenue. Upon arrival officers located one male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim of the shooting was the identified as Kydriuan Thompkins b/m 22 years old of Raceland. The victim was then transported via ambulance to a local medical facility where he died as a result of the injuries.

After further investigation with the assistance of the Thibodeaux Police Department the suspect was identified as Lajohn Thomas Jr. 22 years of age and a warrant for Second Degree Murder has been obtained for his arrest. At the present time the motive for the shooting has not yet been determined as the investigation is still ongoing. Further details related to the investigation may be released at a later date and time.

On December 11th at approximately 1:30p.m. with the assistance Sherriff Timothy Soignet and NAACP president Jerome Boykin, the suspect Lajohn Thomas surrendered himself to investigators of the Houma Police Department. Thomas was then transported to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex without incident where he is being held in lieu of a $1,000,000 bond.
