Sheriff Advises Public to Use Caution When Driving in Construction Zones

St. Mary Sheriff Blaise Smith said they have had some traffic issues in the construction zone on the Highway 90 bridge over the Atchafalaya River. The construction will continue over the next few months so they are reminding motorists of two simple actions that will help alleviate some traffic issues in construction zones.

1- Leave space between you and the vehicle in front of you. This will give you more time to react to the vehicle in front of you.

2- Slow down. Slower speeds help minimize problems in traffic areas. More reaction time for drivers helps to lessen the chances of crashes.
