School Board Approves Recommendation; Masks Recommended In St. Mary Parish Schools But Mandated To Be Worn On Buses

The St. Mary Parish School Board voted unanimously to approve a recommendation by St. Mary Parish School Superintendent, Dr. Teresa Bagwell, that would recommend, but not mandate, the wearing of masks at schools and mandate masks on buses in the Parish. Dr. Bagwell told the Board that the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) updated “school system operational guidance” for the 2021-22 school year, which included a recommendation of mask wearing for those who had not been vaccinated.   The exception will be the wearing of masks on school buses.  All students, in St. Mary Parish, will be mandated to wear masks on buses due to a Presidential Executive Order that mandates mask wearing on public transportation.
