Ronald James Roy

Ronald James Roy, a longtime resident of Patterson, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 66 in the morning hours of Monday, April 20, 2020, at his home with his wife and son by his side.
Ronnie, affectionately known as Ronnie Roy and Papoochie, was born on January 18, 1954 in Morgan City and was the seventh of eight siblings. At a very young age, Ronnie began working at Jenning’s Supermarket in the meat market where he would later become Butcher, working through the various ownerships of Roy’s Supermarket, and then Piggly Wiggly. On September 7, 1974 he married his childhood sweetheart, Judy David, and the two were blessed with a son, Ron. Later, Ronnie went on to work as a Milkman for Lefleur Dairy in Morgan City until his retiring. He was an avid sports fan and coached girls’ softball and boys’ baseball and basketball. Some of his favorite pastimes included shooting pool, fantasy football, and especially playing cards. A giant of a man with a generous nature and a heart to match, nothing brought him more joy than spending time with family and friends, especially his granddaughter, Braylee. Seeing her each and every day was definitely the highlight of his day. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered with a smile.
Those he leaves to cherish his memory include his wife of nearly 46 years, Judy David Roy; his son, Ron Roy and his wife Chantel Guidry Roy; his granddaughter, Braylee Avia Roy; three siblings, Barbara Lacoste and her husband Alfred; Ann Murray; and Arthur Roy and his wife Gloria; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death in by his parents, Wilson Roy Sr. and Rita Comeaux Roy; and four siblings, Wilson Roy Jr., Allen Roy, Numa Roy, and Jeanie Roy Suire.
Due to the current public health concerns and the restrictions in accordance with limited gatherings, funeral services will be held privately with the family in St. Joseph Cemetery in Patterson. Pastor Mark E. Gowan will conduct the services.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ron Roy, CW Mouton, Duane “Spanky” Blanco, Chad Gary, Marvin Guidry, and Dale Leftwich.
