Morgan City Police Make Arrest in Three Shots Fired Complaints

Thursday, the Morgan City Police Department received a complaint of shots fired in the 1200 block of Railroad Ave. Upon officer’s arrival, they located shell casings from a firearm in the roadway.

During the investigation, officers located a vehicle on Seventh St. with evidence of being recently struck by gunfire. Detectives with the Morgan City Police Department conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Dearius Young. During the investigation, it was learned the vehicle was allegedly involved in the Fourth St. shooting on Monday, August 17 and on Eleventh St. on Tuesday, August 18,

Investigators say Young discharged a firearm on Eleventh St. on Tuesday, August 18. During the traffic stop, a 9 mm handgun was located in Young’s possession. Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Dearius Young for Obstruction of Justice-Tamping with evidence and Illegal Use of Dangerous Instrumentalities. He was placed under arrest and booked at the Morgan City Police Department.

The investigation is continuing and the Morgon City Police Department is further seeking possible suspects in this investigation as well as the recent shootings.
