Iberia Parish – At approximately 5:00 p.m. on October 3, 2021, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I were notified of a single-vehicle crash on Jefferson Island Road at Rip Van Winkle Road in Iberia Parish. The crash took the life of 34-year-old Joshua Dean Meaux of Abbeville. According to reports, Meaux was reported missing on Saturday morning to Abbeville Police by family members.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed Meaux was driving a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle south on Jefferson Island Road when, for unknown reasons, he failed to negotiate a left curve and exited the roadway to the right. Meaux was ejected from the motorcycle, which became fully submerged after entering a coulee.
Meaux, who was wearing a DOT approved helmet at the time of the crash, died at the scene. Impairment is unknown but a standard toxicology sample was obtained for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
