Juvenile Arrested In Berwick Boat Theft Case; More Arrests Expected

Berwick Police Chief David Leonard reports the following arrests:
W/M Juvenile 13 yoa. was arrested on Sunday May 10, 2020 at 12:10 pm for

• THEFT OVER $2,000.00  (Berwick Warrant)

On Sunday May 10, 2020 at approx. 12:10 pm, juvenile walked into the Berwick Police Dept. with his guardian stating they were here to turn himself in on an active warrant for his arrest.  The juvenile was placed under arrest and booked on the charge.  He was later released to the custody of his guardian with juvenile court proceedings pending.  The warrant stems from an incident in which a boat was reported stolen from Berwick on Friday May 8, 2020. During the course of the investigation, officers were provided pictures of suspects stealing the boat and the juvenile was identified and a warrant was prepared for his arrest.  Investigators later recovered the stolen boat in the Atchafalaya River and it was returned to the owner. More arrest are pending in this investigation.
