Job well-done, K9 friend

Vickie, a 7-year-old K9, worked her last shift on duty on Sunday. K9 Vickie is certified in narcotic detection of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, meth, and black tar heroin. She has been a productive member of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office K9 division as the partner of K9 handler Justin Morvant.

The department said she is being retired due to health reasons. Vickie spent her last shift on Sunday working as normal. However, she did take some time to get a few pictures in. She will be living out the rest of her life with Justin Morvant as a “member of the family.”

“Vickie and I have been through a lot together and overcame plenty of challenges. Since we have been working together our bond has grown more than I could have ever imagined, and I could not have asked for a better partner. It’s disappointing she won’t be out there on the road with me every day, but I am excited to be able to have her as a permanent part of my family!”
