Jesselynn “Jessie” Fontenot Aucoin, a native of Mamou, LA, former longtime resident of Franklin, and a 35 year resident of Sorrel, passed away Friday, April 16, 2021, at her home with her family by her side.
Ms. Jesse was born on June 26, 1940, one of eight daughters born to Isom and Ester Fontenot. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who was lovingly called “MaMa” by her grandbabies. She was the Rummy Queen, though her grandchildren say she cheated. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and loved watching old westerns, especially Dale Robertson.
Those she leaves to cherish her memory include her five children, Christine Blanchard and her husband Kenny, Gerard Aucoin, Stephanie Schexnaider and her husband John Schexnaider, Denette Trahan and her husband Caroll Trahan Jr., and Denise Johnson and her companion Michael Benoit; nine grandchildren, Cheramie (Clinton) Hopper, Joey (Mallory) Bourque, Jeremy (Heather) Bourque, Joni Bourque (Rochelle Smith), Megan J. Aucoin, Blane (Megan) Aucoin, Quenton Johnson, Kaylee (Matthew) Campbell, and Lee Louviere; 15 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Jeffery D. Aucoin; one grandson, Jason “Hank” Bourque; her parents, Isom Joseph Fontenot and Ester Lee Fontenot; her five sisters, Juanita McGee, Ethel Young, Mary “Winnie” Fontenot, Linda Johnson, and Gertie Thibodeaux; as well as two infant sisters.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday, April 19, 2021, at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with the Holy Rosary being prayed at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Mamou followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon. Following the Mass, she will be laid to rest in the St. Augustine Cemetery Mausoleum in Basile. Father Billy Massie will be the Celebrant for the Mass and conduct the services. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Joey Bourque, Jeremy Bourque, Blane Aucoin, Lee Louviere, Quenton Johnson, and her nephew, Ronald Johnson.
