Grandmother Shot While Picking Up Grandchildren at School in Houma

UPDATE:

Houma Police has identified the alleged shooter as Jamanie Dotch, 17 yrs. old of Wolff Parkway, Houma.

After reviewing video surveillance, Houma Police observed Dotch approach the area of Grinage Street and Point Street on a bicycle. Investors say he exited the bicycle walking toward the 600 block of Griange where he was involved in the altercation with the victim.

Shortly thereafter, Dotch is observed armed with a weapon, running back to the bicycle and fleeing the area.

Upon reviewing the footage, Houma Police secured arrest warrants on Jamanie Dotch for Attempted 1st Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm in a School Zone.

The Houma Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred shortly after 1:00 pm on Friday, in the 600 block of Grinage Street, where a 60-year-old female was picking up her grandchildren from school.

While doing so, she was allegedly approached by a male who was armed with a weapon. During the investigation, Houma Police learned that the male reportedly fired a shot, striking the victim in the lower torso and fled the area on foot.

The victim was transported to a local medical facility to retrieve treatment for her injuries. Houma Police detectives interviewing witnesses, reviewing surveillance footage and gathering evidence in an attempt to identify the suspect. Additional information will be released as it develops.
