Governor Edwards Considering Keeping Schools Closed Through End of School Year

After the President of the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education sent a letter to Governor John Bel Edwards asking for him to keep schools closed through the end of the current academic year, Edwards says he is giving the idea some consideration.
Edwards said in his daily media briefing that “there is a really good chance” that schools will remain closed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. He said he expects to make the decision “relatively soon”.
Edwards’s originally closed all Louisiana schools from March 16 through April 20. However, he recently extended his order through April 30. Many Louisiana school superintendents are also asking the governor to keep schools closed through the end of the school year.
