First Responders Tested For COVID-19

St. Mary Parish President David Hanagriff announced on Monday that the St. Mary Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness tested First Responders in the Parish for the COVID-19 virus on Monday morning, May 4, 2020. The site was manned by Deputies of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. Mary Parish OHSEP and employees of the Bayou Vista Community Center, who hosted the site. In all, approximately 100 first responders were tested, with results expected within a couple of days.
The site was set up and monitored by Sheriff Blaise Smith and St. Mary Parish OHSEP Director, David Naquin, along with St. Mary OHSEP assistant Jimmy Broussard. The test site was a drive-thru site whereby the persons remained in their vehicles and were tested by self-swabbing themselves. The samples were collected and transported to a lab for analysis.
