Douglas Joseph Hebert, a former longtime resident of Franklin and a resident of Youngsville for the past ten years, passed away at the age of 79 on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at 12:59 p.m. at Franklin Foundation Hospital. He was born on November 8, 1941 in Jeanerette and was one of seven children born to Claude and Emeritte Hebert.
Douglas was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend to many. On September 15, 1962 he married the love of his life, Dolores Dupre, and in that union they were blessed with three children, Scott, Monique, and Mitzi. Six months following their marriage Douglas enlisted in the Louisiana National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1967 with the rank of Sergeant. He went on to forge a successful career with Cabot. Next to his marriage and birth of his children, one of his proudest moments in life was being ordained as a Deacon of the Catholic Church in the first Diaconate class for the Diocese of Lafayette in 1977. His vocation has spanned 44 years and has deepened his faith, prayer life, and service to his community and church. Following his retiring from Cabot he was able to devote more of his time in service to the Church until his beloved Dolores’ health started to fail. He then became her caregiver until her passing in 2018, carrying out his wedding vows made so many years ago to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part. Douglas’ faith life deepened even more during Dolores’ illness and especially following her passing. He also had a strong devotion to our Blessed Mother Mary and prayed the rosary faithfully. Some of his favorite pastimes included woodworking and camping. He was especially proud of his new custom conversion van that unfortunately he was only able to use once for a recent trip to Colorado. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Those he leaves to cherish his memory include his three children, Scott A. Hebert, Monique A. Hebert, and Mitzi H. Perkins and her husband Josh; eight grandchildren, Heather Hebert, Christen H. Breaux and her husband Trey, Brooke Stovall, Blake Stovall and his fiancé Chelsea, Mason Perkins, Layne Perkins, Gavin Perkins, and Hayes Perkins; four great grandchildren, Emerie Tarbutton, Tanner Tarbutton, Kori Kate Theriot, and Hayden Stovall; four brothers, Raymond Hebert and his wife Linda, Claude Hebert Jr., Michael Hebert and his wife Karen, and Kenneth Hebert; two sisters, Brenda Champagne and her husband Ron and Arlene Bodin and her husband Ward; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his best friend and wife of nearly 56 years, Dolores Dupre Hebert; as well as by his parents, Claude Felix Hebert Sr. and Emeritte Guillotte Hebert.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 26, 2021, at the Church of the Assumption in Franklin during a 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial. His good friend, Father Gilbert Dutel, will be the main Celebrant for the Mass. Following the funeral Mass, he will be laid to rest with Military Honors in Perpetual Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Hebert, Josh Perkins, Blake Stovall, Raymond Hebert, Claude Hebert Jr., Michael Hebert, and Kenneth Hebert. Honorary pallbearers will be Mason Perkins, Layne Perkins, Gavin Perkins, and Hayes Perkins.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed Monday at the Church of the Assumption from 9:00 a.m. until Mass time, with the Holy Rosary being prayed at 10:00 a.m., led by the Franklin Men’s Ultreya Group.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Roland Degeyter and his staff and to the entire staff of Franklin Foundation Hospital, especially the nurses in ICU and Med/Surg for the loving and compassionate care given to their father as well as for all of the support given to them.
