David Hill, Ward 5 Justice of the Peace Resigns, Withdraws from Race, Schexnayder Automatically Elected to Seat

Incumbent Ward 5 Justice of the Peace, David Hill, who represents the Bayou Vista and Patterson areas, has resigned his position and withdrawn from the race just a little more than a week before Election Day. His lone opponent,, Michelle Dugar Schexnayder, has been automatically elected due to Hill’s withdrawal from the race.

Hill told KQKI News Sunday morning that his resignation was due to him accepting a new job as a Civil Service employee with the state of Louisiana. State laws prohibit civil service employees from holding elected office. Hill’s resignation is effective Sunday at 11:59 pm.

Schexnayder will take office on January 1, 2021  Until she is sworn-in, area Justices of the Peace will fill in for Hill.

In a statement released to KQKI News, Schexnayder said, “I’m humbled and honored to serve the 5th Ward community. I look forward to working with everyone.”
