Berwick Arrest Report 5-18-2020

Berwick Police Cheif David Leonard reports the following arrests:
Jamie Lagunes H/M 62 yoa. of Poncio St. Morgan City, was arrested on Friday May 15, 2020 at 9:41 pm. for

  • DWI FIRST OFFENSE
  • IMPROPER LANE USAGE
  • DRIVER MUST LICENSED
  • POSSESSION OF FRAUDULENT DOCUMENTS FOR IDENTIFICATION

On Friday May 15, 2020 at approx.. 9:13pm Berwick Police received a complaint from a concerned motorist indicating that they were behind a vehicle on La Hwy 182 in Berwick and that it was swerving all over the roadway. Officers located the vehicle and observed it crossing the center line and fog line. A traffic stop was conducted and officers made contact with the driver who identified himself as Jamie Huesca Lagunes.
While in contact with Lagunes, officers advised that could smell a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and that he had trouble standing on his own. A field sobriety test was conducted which officers stated he did poorly on. Lagunes was placed under arrest and was transported to Berwick P.D. where he submitted to the states breath test with the results of  .145g% BAC.  During the booking process, officers conducted an inventory of Lagunes wallet and revealed that he was in possession of a fraudulent Texas drivers license.  Lagunes was booked into the Berwick jail on the charges and he remains incarcerated with no bond set at this time.
 


 
17 YEAR OLD JUVENILE of Bayou Vista was arrested on Saturday May 16, 2020 at 7:30 pm for

  • 8 COUNTS OF SIMPLE BURGLARY
  • 5 COUNTS ATTEMPTED SIMPLE BURGLARY
  • THEFT

15 YEAR OLD JUVENILE of Bayou Vista was arrested on Saturday May 16, 2020 at 8:03 pm  for

  • 8 COUNTS OF SIMPLE BURGLARY
  • 5 COUNTS ATTEMPTED SIMPLE BURGLARY

On Saturday March 16, 2020 investigators with the Berwick Police Dept. with the assistance of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s identified and located two juveniles that were involved in  Burglaries that occurred on Friday May 15, 2020 in the Berwick area.  The two juveniles were identified as a W/M 15 yoa. and H/M 17 yoa.  Both were identified as suspects and brought in for questioning. During the course of the investigation, Berwick Detectives obtained a confession from the juveniles.  Also during the course of the investigation, several items stolen during the burglaries were recovered.  Warrants were prepared for their arrest and both were booked into the Berwick Jail and later released to the custody of their parents with juvenile court proceedings pending.
