St Mary Parish will have aerial mosquito spraying Saturday evening between the hours of 6 pm to 8 pm covering approximately 112,000 acres. The spraying will cover most of the inhabited areas of the parish.
Officials say that aerial application of insecticide is the most effective way to rapidly reduce the number of mosquitoes in a large area. They added that spraying does not present a risk to people, pets or other animals. However, anyone with respiratory problems is asked to remain indoors during these hours.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, people may prefer to stay inside and close windows and doors when spraying takes place, but it is not necessary.
