Crash Claims The Life Of A New Iberia Man

Iberia Parish – Shortly after 4:00 a.m. on July 28, 2020, Troopers responded to a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on LA Hwy 88 south of US Hwy 90. The crash claimed the life of 33-year-old Bradley Paul Comeaux of New Iberia.
The preliminary investigation by State Police revealed Comeaux was walking east in the eastbound lane of LA 88 when he was struck by an eastbound 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by 62-year-old Lovelace Menard, Jr. of Youngsville. Comeaux was pronounced deceased at scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office. Menard was not impaired at the time of the crash. He was properly restrained and suffered no injuries. Standard toxicology samples were taken and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
A majority of pedestrian fatalities, nearly 70 percent, occur at night. Troopers urge pedestrians to maintain a heightened level of awareness while walking near the road. Simple precautions such as wearing reflective materials, avoiding distractions, not walking too close to roadways, and walking against the flow of traffic could prevent most pedestrian related crashes.
Troop I has investigated 30 fatal crashes resulting in 33 deaths since the beginning of 2020.
